Spots are available for summer care for children ages 6 to 12 at the Rend Lake College Foundation Children's Center in Ina. The Center is available to the general public and is the only child care facility in Franklin, Jefferson and Perry counties accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children.
The Center, located on the Rend Lake College campus, touts a program based on children's active exploration of the world. Children learn through their play in an environment which provides interesting materials, so the daily activities at the center appear very play-oriented. The curriculum is developed based on the children's interests, questions and conversations.
With the play-based learning approach, children have fun while learning. When the weather permits, the indoor learning environment is extended outside the center, be it the center's backyard or around campus. An outdoor learning environment opens up opportunities to explore science and nature.
Parents are welcome to be involved with their child's experience at the RLCF Children's Center. Training in various childcare methods and group activities are offered each month for parents to take part in the learning process.
The RLC Foundation Children's Center accepts children ages six weeks to five years throughout the year, and also accepts school-age children during summers. Financial assistance is available to families for child care services including subsidy payments based on financial need. The center director can assist families in the application process for these services.
Anyone interested in signing up a child for summer care is invited to call Children's Center Director Michelle Allen at 618-437-5321, Ext. 1393, or email to //webapp.rlc.edu/pressroom/[email protected]">[email protected].
