INA, Ill. - At a ceremony Wednesday on the main campus in Ina, 11 Pre-K kids from the Rend Lake College Foundation Children's Center got their marching orders. They are Kindergarten-bound!
The Class of 2011 includes Alli Downes (Woodlawn), Austin Horner (Mt. Vernon), Ethan Crouse (Salem), Justin Welch (Ina), Kendra Metzger (Benton), Kennedi Odum (Mt. Vernon), Maelee Allen (Bonnie), Maddie Braun (Pinckneyville), Madison Smith (Benton), Mason Tieffel (Mt. Vernon) and Sadie Copple (Dix). Three of the 11 - Allen, Crouse and Smith - received special "lifetime member" recognition for attending the center since birth.
The ceremony, held in the college's theater for family and friends, included the "Spring Chicken Song," slide show with music provided by Assistant Teacher Nichole Musielak, a "Tooty-Ta" dance and a Pre-K chant. Brooke Pulke, director of the center, welcomed the guests and offered some parting words for the graduates, and guest speaker Pat Kern, CEO of the Foundation, challenged the children to achieve their dreams through education. The event was topped off with an ice cream social back at the center.
"Thank you for entrusting me with your most precious gifts," Pre-K Head Teacher Rene Crouse told the parents in the audience. "The year passed by quickly. I'm amazed at the progress these little people have accomplished."
The center is now enrolling children for Pre-K openings. For more information, call 618-437-5321, Ext. 1393.
