Help make “The HUB” a reality at RLC

INA, Ill. (Feb. 20, 2020) — Plans to expand and enhance the Learning Resource Center at Rend Lake College are well underway. At its Annual Dinner in December, the Rend Lake College Foundation launched The HUB fundraising campaign with the announcement of a very generous lead gift from George and Mary Slankard. “We are very grateful for Mr. and Mrs. Slankard’s strong commitment to Rend Lake College. The Slankard’s are passionate about education and they care deeply about the future of our area,” said Kay Zibby-Damron, Chief Executive Officer of the RLC Foundation.

This project will enhance the school’s Learning Resource Center (LRC) in a variety of ways, including the creation of a beautiful façade and outdoor student study area in the front of the Center. The project will create a new entryway in the front of the LRC that ties into the center of the campus, making it a “hub” of learning for all students attending RLC. The plans also include expanding floor space to create six collaborative learning/study rooms across the front of the library for both individual and group study. The Career and Technical Education Success Center and CTE Computer Lab located within the LRC are getting upgrades as well. The Success Center and Computer Lab will be transformed into a more modern learning space to provide contextualized tutoring and other resources for the school’s technical programs – the cornerstone of Rend Lake College. And finally, the Children’s Library area will be enhanced to provide a more robust space for future Rend Lake College Warriors to read and learn.

“When President Wilkerson shared some of the college’s needs with the Foundation Board of Directors it was clear this project would directly impact every student who attends RLC. As important, anyone in the community can utilize our Learning Resource Center,” said Zibby-Damron.

There are still a number of ways to contribute to The HUB campaign and help the Foundation reach the campaign goal of $600,000. Donors have the opportunity to honor or memorialize a loved one through naming opportunities that still exist, including walkways and outdoor solar charging study tables. Gifts at the $5,000 level and above will be listed on a beautiful recognition tribute that will be prominently located in the Learning Resource Center.

The RLC Foundation hopes to reach its fundraising goal by early spring, with an official groundbreaking to be announced in the very near future.
