LADY WARRIORS SLUGGERS SWEEP LINDENWOOD J.V.

ST. CHARLES, Mo. – Rend Lake College swept Lindenwood University’s J.V. squad in a softball double-header Monday at the St. Charles campus. The only thing more beautiful than the historic Missouri campus was the first-game 7-0 shutout and the 8-2 win in the second game, according to Lady Warriors Coach Dave Ellingsworth.

RLC pitchers Rachel Reichert (Collinsville) and Julie Hathaway (Steeleville) got the wins for the Lady Warriors and pitched complete games. Reichert pitched her second win of the season in the first game and Hathaway threw for her first win on the tail end of the double-header. Catching Reichert was Caroline Rutkowski (O’Fallon). Rutkowski also caught Hathaway after coming in for Kala Seiler (Boonville, Ind.) in the fifth.

Ellingsworth said it was a good game for Reichert and Hathaway to condition their arms for the distance.

“You are ahead so there is not a lot of pressure there. Just throw strikes,” he said.

RLC defense logged only two errors over the two games, compared to LUJV’s five. More explanatory of the wins were RLC’s 23 overall hits to their opponent’s 13. Especially in the first game where RLC out-hit LUJV 12 to three.

In that game, RLC hitters waited until the fourth inning to turn it on and scored 3, 2 and 2 runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively. Shannon Allen (Belleville) went 4-5 with a double, triple and two RBI; Hannah Keeney (Villa Grove) hit 2-4; and Kiyla Spurlock (Santa Claus, Ind.) went 1-3 with a double and a RBI.

In the second game, Maggie Hall (Harrisburg) went 2-3 with a double and two RBI while Taylee Spicuzza (Dahlgren) hit 3-4 with a double and three RBI. The Lady Warriors scored every inning in the second game.

The loss went to Lawlor with Miesener catching in the first game and Zinselmier with Saffa catching in the second.

It will be a rematch on Thursday as LUJV travels to Ina. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
